A Millennial Family's Review of a Room in the New Orleans Marriott

The New Orleans Marriott hotel is an exceptional location for families and working professionals who are traveling to New Orleans, Louisiana for a vacation or for a conference.

This hotel also has an "M Club Lounge" which is one of my FAVORITE Marriott Lounges in the world! Yes, I can say the world, because we visited our first Marriott Lounge outside of the United States this summer.

Even if you are not a Marriott Rewards member, this lounge is an incredible deal because it provides breakfast and dinner! Yum!

The rooms are amazing, because they offer spectacular views of the street below. It is a great way to see the city at a glance without actually having to leave your room.

This video offers a view of a typical room at the New Orleans Marriott.

Have a great week and plan for the weekend!

10 Millennial Friendly Items Your Hotel, City, or Airport is Missing!

As a millennial traveler for business and personal purposes, I value extra amenities available in airports, hotels, and shopping plazas! If you think about the needs of Millennials, we usually travel with our digital devices which feature money-saving loyalty apps, enable us to engage on social media with those around us and those who were not fortunate to join our journey, and allow us to check-in before we arrive to our destination.

1 - Mobile Check-In for Hotels
This feature enables millennial travelers to chose our own customized, personalized experience when visiting a hotel. Based on the mobile app, we are able to: check-in the day before we actually arrive to the destination, choose the time we would like to have our room ready (which is GREAT for an early morning arrival), and choose when we would like to leave! Some loyalty programs actually enable us to choose a 4pm check out time! I LOVE THIS!

2 - Mobile Ordering and Payment in Airport Terminals
Mobile apps like Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts enable travelers to order their meals ahead of time, notify the restaurant when they would like to pick up the meal, pay for the meal via the app, and then the best part - EARN POINTS!

3 - Hotel and Airport Lounges!
Even though these travel concepts have been around for years, the travel industry should prepare for the influx of traveling Millennials who are looking for the value added experience. These lounges offer an experience for Millennials who are traveling for business to engage in an informal social setting, grab
"free food", and document this coveted experience on social media.

4 - USB Plugs and Desks
Millennials like access to outlets throughout their hotel rooms and airports when they are on the go! Yes, this seems like a college or university concept (to have outlets everywhere), but as a college professor, I LOVE these as well! I am always on the lookout for USB outlets for my various devices!

5 - Free Wi-Fi
I know that this seems like a given, but Millennial travelers (and everyone else) appreciate free wi-fi and we are willing to give surface-based personal information or walk a block or more to take advantage of this amenity!

6 - Tours that Depart from the Hotel
As Millennials, we are all about the local experience and we do not want to embark on a long journey to have these experiences. We want the experience to come to us! This is definitely true for millennial business travelers and millennial families. If a tour departs from our hotel, we are more likely to take it!

I am a fan of Grayline Tours, because they are safe, reliable, and they are located in many cities, states, and they also have international tours!

7 - Local Food Fare and Beverages on the Room Service and Restaurant Menu
Yes, millennials are all about the local experiences, but this also includes local food fare! So, if it is too cold, too hot, too rainy, or too stormy to experience the local environment, we will definitely try the local food and brag to our friends about how great the local [insert local food or beverage item here] was and how others who are visiting the area should try it!

8 - Internet Friendly TVs in Hotel Rooms
Yes! This has been one of the most amazing items that I've experienced as a millennial traveler. It is just like watching the Internet at home. I just log-on to my YouTube account, Hulu account, or Netflix and I am able to watch all of my shows from the comfort of my own...hotel room!

9 - Amazon Delivery to Hotels or Highlight the Amazon Lockers within a Block of the Hotel
We use Amazon at home and we would like to have access to all of the snacks that we had to leave at home due to packing our TSA and airline compliant luggage. For example, I have Smartwater nad snack bars delivered to my home each month to prevent an additional trip to the grocery store. Hotels should highlight the Amazon delivery address or nearest Amazon locker on their website!

10 - Learning Experiences in the Airport
Our entire existence has been focused on learning. Why stop learning when we are on the go with our businesses or with our families. The Atlanta Marriott Gateway Hotel highlights TED talks on their website and on the Internet TV in each room. The Atlanta Hartfield airport features various learning opportunities for travelers by having several National Park Service kiosks with actual artifacts in their terminals. This was a great learning opportunity for each member of our family. Also, the kiosks enabled us to engage with the exhibits via QR codes and also through a common hashtag I learned a lot!

Dining at SeaWorld San Antonio While Learning About Sea Animals

We hope you are having a great week!

Recently, we were invited to SeaWorld San Antonio to discover their new attraction - Dining with Shamu! This was an incredible experience and it is a "must do" attraction for your family when visiting Sea World San Antonio!

The experience is focused on sustainable seafood and learning about sustainability at the same time! It was also a great way to meet other families who love to learn about sea animals as much as we do! As a former science teacher, my husband is always eager to introduce our kindergartener to STEM (science, technology, engineering, and technology).

This event features an all-you-can-eat buffet for your family and it is vegetarian, pescatarian, and vegan friendly!

Here's more information about the experience - https://seaworldparks.com/en/seaworld-sanantonio/Dine-and-Shop/Dining/Dine-with-Shamu/

Weekend Home Updates - Installing Our New Xeiccob Shower Head!

As soon as we arrived home from a full week at work, we raced to the bathroom to install something new! Each week, I try to incorporate at least one new item in our home. This usually includes a new pillow, new sheets, new flowers, holiday decorations, etc.

This week, our new item is based on our frequent weekend hotel travel. We decided to incorporate a new Xeiccob shower head that we received free to review in the mail this week! This full spray, shower head is very shiny, sleek, and it included additional materials (arm and sealant tape).

My husband was still in his work clothes, but he stepped in the shower to accomplish our first task for this weekend - installing the shower head! It looks amazing! Check out our progress!

What else should we update in little one's bathroom? If you are interested in this shower head, please check out their link on Amazon - https://www.amazon.com/Shower-Chrome-Finish-Pressure-Rainfall/dp/B01GLTP472/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1478816497&sr=8-1&keywords=shower+head.

Sincerely,

@WeekendsCount

Yes, You Can Plan a Family Cruise in Less Than 48 Hours! - Our Cruise to Cozumel

This summer, we were very fortunate to plan mini vacations with our two year old!

Our first trip was a CRUISE to Cozumel from Galveston! It was only a four-day cruise, but it was super inexpensive (before the regular travel season - summer). I saw the rate only 2 days before the departure date and we paid for and planned the trip in less than 48 hours!

3 Ways to Minimize Your Costs and Maximize Your Adventures While on Family Vacations

I love reading Woman's Day for deals, coupons, and amazing ideas!

In the June 2013 issue, Womsn's Day highlighted THREE items to remember before traveling on your family's vacation...

YouTube Wednesdays - Must Have Travel Items for Toddler Travel

The last time that I flew with my little one, was in the beginning stages of walking and she was VERY easy to keep up with, but now... she walks EVERYWHERE! I am definitely proud of her progress, but this new level of mobility requires more baby gear that I used to take on a plane.

Summer Bucket List (Item 2) - Creating and Maintaining a Vegetable Garden

One item that is on our summer bucket list is for our toddler to create and maintain a raised bed garden. Our little one LOVES the dirt and she loves to kneel down to look at each individual plant in our garden.

Letterboxing in North Texas - A New Family Adventure in Almost Every Small Town (No Cost Geocaching)

This week, we began a new adventure exploring our area of Texas through letter boxing. Last summer, while reading a book on activities for kids, I discovered the concept of letter boxing. I was surprised to discover that there were a few letterboxes in our area.

Our first letterbox included the following directions...

Get TWO Free Games of Bowling EVERYDAY this Summer!

Would you like for your little ones to remain physically active over the summer? Checkout this amazing website, Kids Bowl Free - http://www.kidsbowlfree.com/.

Just search for your hometown and a few participating bowling alleys should appear in the search results!

Why We are Choosing to Make Our Weekends Count! - From a Millennial Family

We are excited about creating this new blog about our BUSY lives as a millennial family and how we are incorporating CREATIVE ways to make the most of our weekends!

During the weekend, we usually...
- complete our shopping
- finish activities around the house
- make our own mulch!
- play in the dirt (we try to be a self-sustaining household
- visit a hotel (for a quick getaway with the baby)
- complete any "to do's" from the week before
- plan the next week

We try to make the weekend time, our family's togetherness time and to disconnect from our digital devices around 20 percent less that we would normally. <- This does not happen all the time. :(

We are open to suggestions and to additional activities!

Sincerely,

@WeekendsCount
