Travel Hacks You Need To Try On Your Next Trip - Guest Post

This week, we have a GUEST POST! Introducing Josh!

About Josh - Josh Cornehell is a marketing specialist professional that helps attract customers, convert leads, or even close customers. Josh has been working professionally in this field since 2008. Have a great week and plan for the weekend!

The adventure of traveling starts even just at the moment you are looking for cheap flights and accommodations. Whether your intent is to unwind or to thrill, nothing makes your tour more pleasant than making sure you a capable of tackling any problems that might occur. Hack your travel and have a great trip with these simple yet street-smart notes.

Download offline Google maps to save data.

For some, it is almost impossible to get around without Google Maps. However, buying a sim card in another country can be pricey for just a short stay and you can’t always expect wi-fi to be available either. Good news is, the latest versions of Google Maps allows users to save destinations for later offline use. Simply type in ‘ok maps’ in the Google Maps search bar and load your starting and end points.

Plug in on a Smart TV.

Losing or forgetting your wall plug is a major hassle especially when your battery is running low. If you’re booked in a hotel, look for the USB connector on the back or side of the TV. You can plug your device in that way to get some needed charge.

Make backup copies of your documents.

You can never tell if you’re next in line of theft or loss incidents. Better safe than sorry. Make copies and take screenshots of your passport, booking confirmation, hotel reservation and all other documents regarding your trip. Have printed copies on hand and also send digital copies to your email or even save copies on a USB stick and on your phone. This step is a lifesaver.

Mark your bags as fragile when checking in.

Aside from ensuring the careful handling of your luggage during transfers, your luggage will also be given top priority in the storage. This means you won’t be waiting too long to get your bag back in the conveyor belt.

Get unlimited water at the airport for free.

Airport security keeps an eye on liquids. As much as you want to bring water bottles with you due to the hefty price of beverages inside the airport, you really cannot. Just bring an empty bottle or canteen and refill it at the water fountains after you’ve passed security.

Switch to incognito settings when looking for flights.

Aside from just clearing the cache technique, private browsing will also save you from hiked up prices especially when you visited multiple times from price watching.

Follow airlines’ social media accounts.

Airlines these days have flash discounts and limited seat sales offer which are announced on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Check their pages and compare deals before booking.

Use ATMs to get local currency.

Money changers charge hefty fees for buying local currency. Use your card and withdraw from local ATMs as you’ll get a minimal charge from your banks foreign exchange protection feature.

Keep some snacks or instant food handy.

There are many cases when you get hungry quickly and food service is hours away. Bring some instant oatmeal in a Ziploc bag or a packet in case you get hungry on the plane and just ask for hot water. Crackers in packets, gum and mints are always a good idea too.

Bring collapsible laundry bags.

These are extremely helpful when separating your clothes in your luggage. You can easily separate clean clothes from the dirty ones. They can also double as a containers for smaller items so they don’t get lost among everything else in your luggage.

Fanny pack it.

They may look out of style but fanny packs are extremely helpful. They let travelers easily keep an eye on their belongings and keep valuables organized and intact in one small pack. Passing security checks will also be less of a hassle.

Upgrade your luggage allowance for free.

This is one underrated travel hack for packing. If you’re planning to go shopping, bring an extra duffel bag inside your luggage. In case you go over the weight limit, you can move some of your stuff on the duffel bag as hand carry.

Mix and match your tickets.

Ever tried booking two one-way tickets? Book your arrival and returning tickets from different airlines as prices can even be lower. You might also score a flight on the time you like.

Don’t forget to cover yourself up.

May it be a summer season or sunny tropical all-year round on your destination, always bring a pair of pants, long skirts, and long sleeves, according to ecomparemo.com travel advisories. Aside from protecting yourself from unexpected weather change, act accordingly especially on conservative places.

Thanks Josh!

Sincerely,

The @WeekendsCount Family!

3 Ways to Help You Remember to Pack Important Items for Travel

When you travel, you need to pack almost everything that you will need for your trip. This is especially important for camping and off-the-beaten path travel. For example, you will need to have cooking equipment and food if you plan to camp on a road trip or if you plan to fly to a campsite.

However, there are some weird parents like me who like to save money and cook while in a hotel room (for regular, non campsite) travel. So, this means that I will need to pack food, spices, bowls, utensils, etc. in our suitcases for travel to Florida and California to save money while traveling to Disneyworld, Disneyland, and Universal Studios.

Our packing challenge for all of you is to walk through each essential room of your house when you are traveling.

1. This means, go to the kitchen and write down the essential items that you will need to have in your bag, then go to the bedroom for essential clothing (after checking the weather at your destination).

2. After walking to each room and then adding to your list, consider typing this list on your computer or phone and saving it (so you can use it each time you travel).

3. Then, pack your essential items in packing cubes (or in my case make up bags from Goodwill) and make sure these have a permanent home in your bag. Then you can just use your checklist to double check your items the next time you travel.

Just three easy steps!

If you have a copy of our book, you will find a neat Dollar Tree packing list that can help you get started! These are MUST have items for us!

Here’s Our Usual Dollar Tree Travel Run Check List

▢ Ponchos and Umbrellas

▢ First Aid Kits

▢ Zip Lock Bags

▢ Travel-Sized Containers

▢ Pocket Fans

▢ Batteries

Also, here are a few additional items that can have our on evergreen (remember - we are in East Texas and Pine Trees are green throughout the year). :) So we use evergreen, a lot! :)

Potential Packing List

Flying During COVID19 - What to Pack and Important Things to Remember

It has been over a year since we boarded an airplane. I usually LOVE flying, but I have a TON of anxiety about the process right now. We still earn airline miles through other programs (like grocery shopping), but it is very difficult for me to wrap my head around flying right now.

From domestic to international trips, our family enjoys traveling to new and tried-and-true destinations. We traveled safely on other trips and we cannot wait to travel safely again. Here are some items that we plan to keep in mind when we book and travel on our next trip.

Before You Leave Home

Make sure you know where your seat is located. Are you aisle, center, or window?

Consider purchasing a hard-sided suitcase (or at least a suitcase that you can place under your seat.

Remember to pack your self-cleaning kit (alcohol wipes, sanitizing spray, gel sanitizer, gloves).

Pack some individually packaged snacks in a gallon sized plastic bag. This will help you if you become hungry in the airport and/or on the plane.

Remember to pack more than one mask in your suitcase (and your carry-on bag). It is definitely important to be prepared (just in case).

During the TSA Check-In Process

Pack all of your loose items together in a common pouch (think about your keys, headphones, etc.). This will decrease the level of contact these items will have with germs and viruses in the check-in process.

Consider using the TSA pre-check process. This will probably decrease the amount of time you will spend in line around other passengers.

Remember to sanitize your hands and potentially your bags.

Before You Board the Plane

Think about visiting an airport lounge before your flight. These bathrooms and eating areas are usually less crowded than normal airport lounges. This potentially means less germs.

Considering bringing a drink with a straw. This might be easier to drink a beverage on the plane.\

When You Board the Plane

Wipe down your tray table when you find your seat.

Remember to sanitize your hands.

Relax, you can do this!

This is actually the checklist that I plan to use when traveling for business and also with my family during the next few months. We are looking forward to it!

Did we miss something from our list? Please add it! This list can help save your family a lot of time when planning your next trip. :)

Have a great week and plan for the weekend!

Sincerely,

The @WeekendsCount Family!

Cleaning Your Hotel Room During COVID19 - Checklist for Staying Safe While Traveling

We traveled to a HOTEL for the FIRST time since the COVID19 pandemic began. We decided to step SLOWLY back into the travel world by traveling to a location close to home. Yes, packed our bags and chose one of our favorite local hotels, our local Holiday Inn.

To prepare for this trip, we packed a gallon-sized bag of cleaning materials, our clothes, and lots of courage. :)

If you would have checked our bags before we left for the adventure, you would have seen gloves for the check-in process, our food and cooking appliances for in-room dining, and pillow slips!

When we checked-in, we experienced contactless check in. It was perfect (especially for anxiety-filled me). They had special cups for sanitized and not-yet-sanitized pens, which was amazing. However, I brought my own! :)

When we received our keys, we drove to the room and discovered a neat adhesive sticker over the sill of our door. It stated that the door was sanitized. Well done Holiday Inn, well done!

As soon as we checked in, we broke out the Clorox wipes and spray and then we quickly started our sanitizing work! From door handles and faucets to spraying the sheets and placing the remote in the ice bag, we finished the process in under 10 minutes. (It will be MUCH quicker next time, because NOW we have a process).

*This process is a ramped up edition of our classic hotel cleaning process, but this is our COVID19 edition.

Here's a quick checklist for you to sanitize your hotel room.

Remember to put on your gloves!

Step 1 - Clean the Door Handles and Light Switches

Step 2 - Spray the Couch, Tables, and the Dining Chairs

Step 3 - Wipe the Counters and the Faucets

Step 4 - Spray the Beds and Bed Linens

Step 5 - Place the Pillow Slips on the Bed

Step 6 - Wipe the Refrigerator Handles and Shelves

Step 7 - Spray the Thermostat

Oh, but wait, you probably want to know what to pack for sanitizing your hotel room. You can definitely sanitize, Dollar Store style or you can purchase the item son Amazon!

Item 4 - Gloves

What else would you add to the list?

We felt MUCH better after cleaning everything and the hotel room tends to smell MORE like home. :) Yay! It was perfect! Do you have any questions for us? We will be happy to help!

Have You Purchased a Samsonite Underseater Yet? Great for Airline Travel!

My family flies to many destinations within the United States. However, when I travel alone, I like to travel with luggage that I can easily fit under my seat. This is especially important if you are traveling Basic Economy on United Airlines or American Airlines.

If you are a mom who works outside the home, a mom on-the-go, or a frequent traveler to the grandparents' house, you need this suitcase. It is GREAT for air travel or for simply fitting in the trunk of a car for a 1-5 day road trip! Introducing the Samsonite Small Underseat Carry-On Luggage, Black, One Size and the Samsonite Underseat Spinner with USB Port Carry-On Luggage, Jet Black, One Size!

This post contains affiliate links to help you build your shopping list and travel list for your family. We provide easy links for you to click to make your busy lifestyle easier!

Here's the Samsonite Small Underseat Carry-On Luggage, Black, One Size suitcase! This is the one that I have and love, but after six years, I need a new one soon. Everything is in tact, but after 40+ trips, I've put some wear and tear on this suitcase. Let's get one!

Here's the Samsonite Underseat Spinner with USB Port Carry-On Luggage, Jet Black, One Size. It is sleek, professional, and ready to travel! It is actually a spinner as well! We do not have a spinner, but I would definitely love to spin my suitcase 360 degrees!

This has been the best bag for me and sometimes it is large enough for a weekend trip for my family. In fact, I've used this bag for the last 40 trips (over the past six years) that I have taken on the airplane and for numerous work trips. It has everything that I need in a bag and I never have to worry about leaving something at home because it is all there. With 15+ pockets and zipper sections, you have room for almost everything.

This bag has fit under economy seats on American Airlines and United Airlines. It is perfect for almost every adventure and in fact, I've escaped having to check my bag because it fit under the seat.

Have a great week and plan for the weekend!

Sincerely,

The @WeekendsCount Family!

Samsonite Underseater Carry On Luggage is Great for Travelers

I typically travel 2-3 times per months and this makes packing and unpacking a process that I began to dread each time. I decided to address this dread head-on and to do something about it. I began packing the essentials in one pack instead of two bags.

Also, I dread spending extra money on checking a bag. In fact, I had to not checked a bag in over 9 years. When they began charging for checking a bag with the airline, I began to pack creatively.

From packing potential medicines (headache medicine, pepto tabs, etc.) to packing additional shoes (because once I had a shoe malfunction in New Orleans at a conference), I had to pack items that I could use time and after time that I travel.

So, now I have this routine:

1 - Wash and Dry the Same Outfits Each Time
2 - Restock Any Medicine
3 - Restock the Toiletry Bag
4 - Restock the Food Bag (Teas, Creamer)
5 - Check my Electronic Hot Tea Maker

I pack all of the items listed above (at all times) in my Samsonite Underseat bag. Here's a video about my bag!

This has been the best bag for me and sometimes it is large enough for a weekend trip for my family.

If you decide to purchase the bag, I strongly recommend that you connect with the airlines ahead of time about any seats one the aircraft that might have an added electronic panel. This panel can cause many travelers to rethink their packing strategy, because the Samsonite Underseater will not fit under those seats. This is true unless, they are inserted under the seat creatively.
