How to Make the Most of One Day in San Antonio

So it's Saturday morning and Mom leaves the hotel for her conference so it's up to Dad to plan a fun and educational day in San Antonio.  Since we're in downtown San Antonio, the car is in a parking garage with no in/out privileges.

After checking the local bus website, I discovered the Viva Culture line (11).  My daughter wanted to go to the zoo.  The zoo was on the bus route (inner happy dance).  The concierge informed us that the bus stop was about a five-minute walk away.

For just $2.75, I purchased a day pass. My daughter didn't need a pass given her age.  The bus even has free high speed wifi! Our Paw-Paw, who lives in San Antonio, decided to join us!

The Viva Missions route (40) includes stops at the San Antonio Missions World Heritage Site.  The Viva Centro route (301) includes stops at the Convention Center, the Riverwalk, and the Alamodome.

The name of the bus system means "life"/"live". This was a great This was a great way to incorporate Spanish along the way to the zoo.

The bus dropped us off right in front of the zoo.  The driver showed us the stop for the return trip on the other side of the street.  The bus also picks up from the zoo every 30 minutes.

The zoo was so much fun!

Other stops on the Viva culture route include the Witte Museum, the San Antonio Museum of Art, the McNay Art Museum, and the Alamo.

We stopped at the Alamo on the return trip since we had a day pass.  My daughter got to learn about Texas history through the buildings, artifacts, and storytellers dressed in time-inspired clothing.

The stop by our hotel put us right by the River Walk!  A great way to experience the River Walk is by taking a boat tour.  The tour guide will tell you about the history behind the buildings, statues, and flood prevention systems.

After visiting the Riverwalk, we returned to our hotel to prepare for late checkout, another great way to make the most of a day trip.

Have you made a quick trip to San Antonio? What do you recommend?
